The story goes that 5th Dimension singer, Billy Davis Jr, left his wallet in a cab in New York and the man who found it was involved in the stage production of the musical ‘Hair’. He invited the group to see the show and afterwards they were really excited and wanted to record ‘Aquarius’ from the musical. This, however, was not a full song, so producer, Bones Howe, came up with the idea of doing a medley of the 2 songs from the musical. It would top the US charts for 6 weeks before being ousted by The Beatles’ ‘Get Back’. It would go on to win the Grammy for Record Of The Year.
