The song was first recorded as an instrumental piece in 1945 by Dick Haymes for the film of the same name. That version was nominated for the Best Original Song Oscar. It would get to number 11 in the US. It would then chart again in 1962 when Ketty Lester took a version to 5 in the US and 4 in the UK. In 1966 Elvis Presley charted with his version which went to 19 in the US and 6 in the UK.
