The song was covered by Tina Arena in 2008 and would be the 8th best performing song by a Canadian act on our charts (top 20 and top 30 points basis). It is not the same song as the one of the same title by Smith which charted in SA.

PROMISES (CANADA)

The band consisted of Leslie, Jed and Benny Knauer, siblings from Vancouver in Canada. Their father had moved to Canada from Hamburg in Germany. Their career as a band was short lived with only couple of albums and a handful of singles being released. Their debut album, ‘Promises’, would get to 6 in Australia while their only major hit, ‘Baby It’s You’, would top the charts in New Zealand as well as charting in Australia, Belgium and Germany. They would see 1 further (minor) hit with ‘Let’s Get Back Together’ which charted in Australia and Germany. The single’s title also proved ironic as the band broke up after this release as Leslie was wanting to move in a more punk direction musically which was at odds with what her brothers wanted to do. Due to a legal issue with record labels, the band’s material was never released in the US.
