America were an American band consisting of Dewey Bunnell, Gerry Beckley and Dan Peek. Despite their name and the fact that the members were American, the band was actually formed in London, UK where their fathers’ were stationed as part of the US Air Force. Their biggest hit was ‘A Horse With No Name’ which topped the US charts for 3 weeks and would peak at 3 on the UK charts. It would be their only SA chart hit, although they would see their 1983 hit, ‘The Border’ reach 4 on the 702 charts and 2 on the Radio 5 ones. In total they managed 17 US chart hits and 3 UK ones.
