Born: 30 July 1958
Real name: Catherine Bush
She was born in Bexleyheath, a town in the south east part of Greater London. She studied piano, violin and karate as a child. Her family were very musical with her father being a pianist and her mother a traditional Irish dancer. They recorded a demo tape of her compositions which was rejected by most record companies until Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour happened to hear it and liked what he heard. She was signed to EMI records, but her career did not initially take off. However, in 1978 she released the album ‘The Kick Inside’ and the single ‘Wuthering Heights’. The album sold over a million copies in the UK and ‘Wuthering Heights’ would help Bush become the first woman to reach the top of the UK charts with a song they had written and performed. To date she has seen 29 UK chart hits but has not seen any further chart toppers. In the US she has not been as successful with only 4 hits to her name and a best peak of 30 with ‘Running Up That Hill’.
