Real name: Rudolph Grant
Like his brother Eddy, Rudy was also born in the small village of Plaisance in Guyana and like his brother, he also moved to the UK in 1960 to be with his parents. He released his first single in 1969 as Little Brother Grant and then recorded a number of records as The Mexicano which proved popular in UK reggae circles but didn’t give him any main chart hits. In 1981 he started recording under his own name, the first single being a reggae cover of John Lennon’s ‘Woman’. His only UK chart hit came with his next single, a cover of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Lately’ which made it to 58 on the UK charts. He released further singles, including a cover of David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ but saw no further chart action.
