Head was born in the city of Three Rivers in Texas, a place about 120kms south of San Antonio. He formed The Traits while still at school and the band landed a recording contract with TNT records before they had even finished school. Known as Roy Head & The Traits, the band would score 5 Hot 100 hits with ‘Treat Her Right’ being their only top 20 entrant as it went to number 2. Head would see 2 further solo hits with ‘To Make A Big Man Cry’ (#95) and ‘Puff Smoke’ (#96). In the UK ‘Treat Her Right’ would be their only hit, getting to number 30. Head has seen 24 songs make the US Country Singles charts although only 3 of them cracked the top 20 of that chart.
