Born: 18 June 1961
Real name: Geneviève Alison Jane Ballard (née Moyet)
Alison was born in Billericay, a town a little to the east of London and not too far from Basildon where Vince Clark and Depeche Mode hailed from. She would be in a number of different bands in the 70’s and would team up with Vince Clarke, after he left Depeche Mode, to form Yazoo. They produced 2 albums together which went to 2 and 1 respectively on the UK charts. They would also see 6 singles make the UK charts with ‘Only You’s peak of 2 being their best showing. When Clarke decided to disband Yazoo, Alison left Mute records (which had been Depeche Mode’s and Yazoo’s label and Clarke would stay with the label for his future bands, The Assembly and Erasure) and signed to CBS. She teamed up with the production team of Swain & Jolley for her first album. Swain & Jolley had seen success producing Imagination and Bananarama. Her first album, ‘Alf’ would top the UK charts and produce 3 charting singles. She would end up seeing 19 UK chart hits with ‘That Ole Devil Called Love’ giving her a best peak of 2. In 2008 she would reunite with Vince Clarke for some live Yazoo shows.
