Mr Bloe were a UK studio group specifically brought together to record the track ‘Groovin’ With Mr Bloe’. The song had first appeared on the b-side of a single by an American band called Wind which featured Tony Orlando. When it was accidentally played on the Radio in the UK instead of the a-side it was heard by Stephen James of Dick James records and he wanted to release the track as a single in the UK, but could not get the rights to that performance, so arranged for a studio group to record it. The initial group included Elton John on piano, but they didn’t like that version, so it was re-recorded with a guy called Zack Laurence on piano. The song would go to number 2 in the UK and would be one of the top 20 best performing songs in the UK in 1970 (according to my records, 15th best based on a Top 100 points basis). Mr Bloe would see further releases, including a single with both sides written by Elton John (’71-75 New Oxford’/’Get Out (Of This Town)’).
