When the Australian group The Seekers broke up one of their number, Keith Potger, moved to the UK where he formed The New Seekers. They landed a TV show on the UK’s ITV channel, but the series was not well received. A line up change made a difference as ‘Look What They’ve Done To My Song Ma’ (a cover of a Melanie song), made it to 14 in the US and 44 in the UK. Their big UK breakthrough came with their cover of Delaney & Bonnie’s ‘Never Ending Song Of Love’ which went to number 2 and soon after that they hit the top spot with ‘I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing’ (a reworking of the Coca Cola jingle entitled ‘I’d Like To Buy The World A Coke’), In 1972 they were chosen to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest and came second with their hit, ‘Beg Steal Or Borrow’ which would go on to reach number 2 in the UK. In total they would see 16 UK chart hits and would see a second number 1 with ‘You Won’t Find Another Fool Like Me’.
