Born 26 February 1947
Real name: Sandra Ann Goodrich
Sandie was born in Dagenham in England and would work at the Ford factory there after leaving school. She also did a little part time modelling, but all that changed when she came second in a local talent contest. She was spotted by Adam Faith (who would see 26 UK chart hits including 2 number 1’s). Faith introduced her to his manager and she soon had a contract with Pye Records. She made an impact with her second single, the Bacharach and David song ‘(There’s) Always Something There To Remind Me’ which went to number 1 in the UK. She would go on to see 25 UK charting hits with 2 further number 1’s, these being ‘Long Live Love’ and ‘Puppet On A String’. The latter of these was the UK entry into the 1967 Eurovision Song Contest and it would win the contest that year, almost breaking the record for the margin of votes over the second placed song. As her 3rd number 1, ‘Puppet On A String’ made Shaw the first female artist to see 3 UK chart toppers.
