Born: 30 May 1949
Died: 1990
Full name: Cecil Nicholas Thomas
Thomas was born and brought up in Jamaica. He would start out working as a labourer, but got a break through when singer and producer, Derrick Harriott wrote a song called ‘Run Mr Nigel, Run’ which Harriott got Thomas to sing on. The song would become a big hit in Jamaica. A number of hits followed in Jamaica. Then in 1970 he saw his cover of ‘Love Of The Common People’, which had originally been recorded by an American band called The Winstons, go to number 9 in the UK. A UK and Europe tour followed and Thomas would relocate to London. However, he saw no further hits. His date and cause of death are uncertain, although some sources claim he committed suicide in 1990.
