FRANKIE VALLI (US)

Born: 3 May 1934
Real name: Francesco Stephen Castelluccio

Frankie was born in Newark in New Jersey. He was inspired to take up singing after seeing Frank Sinatra perform in New York. In the early 50’s he started his singing career when the Varity Trio gave him a guest spot singing with them. The trio included 2 future Four Seasons members, Tommy DeVito and Nick Macioci. His first single was one called ‘My Mother’s Eyes’ and was issued under the name Frankie Valley. He took his new surname from a singer called Jean Valli, but initially changed the spelling. He would then start working with DeVito and Macioci and they would ultimately form The Four Seasons with whom he would see great success. He would sometimes get a separate billing on Four Seasons records but would see 14 solo hits in the US without them, hitting the top spot with ‘Grease’ (from the film of the same name) and ‘My Eyes Adored You’. He managed 6 solo hits in the UK with ‘Grease’ giving him his best peak of 3.
