The song was first recorded in 1969 by American singer Tasha Tomas, but that version did not chart. The Cuff Links’ version featured a string arrangement by Rupert Holmes who would have an SA Chart hit in 1980 with ‘Escape (The Pina Colada Song)’. The Cuff Links’ lead singer was Ron Dante, who was also the lead singer of The Archies. ‘When Julie Comes Around’ would rank 6th out of the 10 songs that charted for The Cuff Links and The Archies.
