‘Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)’ by Pink Floyd became the 24th song to regain the top spot after having dropped off the number 1 place as it climbed back up 1 to snatch top honours from Styx’s ‘Babe’ which had interrupted its run at 1 for 1 week. There had been 3 songs which had regained the top spot twice making this the 27th time a song had recaptured the number 1 spot.

Last week’s climber of the week, Marianne Faithfull’s ‘Ballad Of Lucy Jordan’ took the honours again this week with a 6 place climb from 11 to 5, however it had to share the honours this time as KC & The Sunshine Band’s ‘Please Don’t Go’ also moved up 6 as it climbed from 10 to 4. There were 2 other star rater climbs in the form of the Sugarhill Gang’s ‘Rapper’s Delight’ which moved up 4 from 16 to 12 and Umberto Tozzi’s ‘Gloria’ which climbed 4 from 19 to 15.

Like the climber award, the falling honours were also shared between two songs. Herb Alpert’s ‘Rise’ did the opposite and fell. It dropped 4 from 4 to 8 while Michael Jackson’s ‘Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough’ fell 4 from 3 to 7.

Suzi Quatro’s ‘She’s In Love With You’ was still the oldest on the chart. It had been with us for 19 weeks and had been the oldest for 5 weeks.

We said goodbye to Barbara Dickson’s ‘Caravan Song’. It had been with us for 11 weeks and peaked at 8. She would return to the charts at a later date. In its place was the first SA chart hit for Pablo Cruise in the form of ‘I Want You Tonight’. The song would be the 7th of 9 Hot 100 hits they would have in the US and would be their 3rd highest charting song there. It made it to number 19 while ‘Whatcha Gonna Do’ and ‘Love Will Find A Way’, 2 of their previous hits, would both get to 6. Apart from members of Pablo Cruise, the song also featured Allee Willis in the song writing credits. She had helped write Earth, Wind & Fire’s ‘September’ and ‘Boogie Wonderland’, both of which had seen SA chart action. She would go on to co-write The Rembrandts’ hit, ‘I’ll Be There For You’ which is best known for being the theme tune to the TV sitcom ‘Friends’. ‘I Want You Tonight’ would also get to 43 in Australia, 18 in Canada, 39 in New Zealand and 19 in Zimbabwe.

KC & The Sunshine Band enjoyed their highest placing in the chart to date with ‘Please Don’t Go’ sitting at 4. Their previous best had been the peak of 6 which ‘That’s The Way (I Like It)’ had managed.

With a British act being replaced by an American one on this week’s chart, we now had 13 of the top 20 songs being by US acts and this was the second highest by a nation we had seen to date. We had seen 14 happened twice and before both times it was with US acts. This also put the American acts 41 ahead of the Brits overall with the former on 555 and the latter on 514. This was the biggest gap at the top of the list of number of hits by a nation that we had seen so far.

Exile saw their points total move past the 600 mark as it ticked over to 611. They sat 56th overall for points.
