The band formed after another band called Free Ride broke up and Rick Wolf joined up with Joe Alves, Chris Ghelakis, John Wedderpohl and Neil McKellar in Johannesburg and formed City Limits. Wolf, who was born in Pretoria on 8 July 1945 had worked in many local bands as well as some UK bands such as The Flower Pot Men and White Plains. From what I can tell, he would have been in White Plains when they had their SA chart hit, ‘My Baby Loves Lovin’. Ghalakis had been in a band called Webb which included Roy Bulkin as a member and had moved onto to another band called Fantasy before joining City Limits. City Limits would only make 1 album after which Wolf would have a stint with Juluka while Ghelakis and Alves would move on to Syndicate which featured Cindy Dickinson and Ronnie Joyce. Syndicate would have a number 14 hit on the Capital 604 charts with ‘Don’t Go Into Town’
