Born: 22 December 1949
Died: 20 May 2012 (aged 62)
Real name: Robin Hugh Gibb
Robin was born on the Isle Of Man and was two minutes older than Maurice, his twin brother. His father, Hugh was a band leader and a drummer. With his bothers Barry and Maurice and two friends, they formed a band called The Rattlesnakes which later became Wee Johnny Hayes & The Blue Cats when the 2 friends left. The family then re-located to Australia where the brothers started calling themselves The Bee Gees. They would go on to have a hugely successful career. In 1969 Robin left The Bee Gees due to rivalry with Barry and he started a solo career. He would go on to see 8 UK hits with ‘Saved By The Bell’ giving him his best peak of 2. He would manage 3 US hits with ‘Oh Darlin’ getting to 15 and being his best performer. He would reunited with the Bee Gees in 1970. When he died it was initially reported that it was from cancer, but his son, Robin-John, has said that the cancer was in remission and that his father died of kidney failure.
