The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin after he read about a Vietnam War vet who had been wounded but wanted to get away from the attention he was receiving when he returned home. The song was nominated for the ‘Best Pop Vocal Performance -Male’ but lost out to Stevie Wonder’s ‘You Are The Sunshine Of My Life’.
