The song was first recorded by Bobby Vee in 1962, but the first charting version was Steve Lawrence’s 1963 one which would top the US charts. It made the Hot 100 again when The Happenings’ version got to 12 in 1966. When Donny Osmond’s version got to number 1 in the US it became the first song to top that chart by 2 different artists. Mark Wynter would see his version get to 6 in the UK in 1962. Donny’s version was the first of 4 hits we would see on our charts by various of the Osmond siblings (Donny would manage 2, and Marie and Little Jimmy 1 apiece). Of those 4, ‘Go Away Little Girl’ would be the worst performing on our charts using a top 20 points score.
