The song was hawked to a number of record companies in London, but it was only after MCA asked a young lad known as Little Roy, who worked as a gofer for the label, what he thought of the track that the band were signed and the single released. The band were reportedly not happy with the final product released by the label as they thought it had been made too poppy where the original was a much rougher affair. The song had the tied second lowest weeks count for a number 1 hit that entered the charts in the 80’s (this excludes Phil Collins’ ‘Against All Odds’ which was still on the charts when they ended). Kim Wilde’s ‘Chequered Love’ and Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)’ both spent 11 weeks in the charts while Shakin’ Stevens’ ‘This Ole House’ was the other one that managed 12 weeks. Bucks Fizz offshoot band, The Fizz, would include a cover of the track on their 2018 single, ‘Up For The Fight’.
