Although the song was recorded before Herman’s Hermits’ version, it was the latter which proved more popular globally. However, in SA, the Herman’s Hermits’ version would not do as well, only peaking at 9. The 2 versions would enter the charts the same week. The New Vaudeville Band’s version would be the second highest ranked song (out of 18) on which Geoff Stephens had a songwriting credit and it would be the 3rd highest of the 18 we saw where Les Reed was a songwriter.
