Songwriter, Albert Hammond, would first record the song in 1975 for his album ’99 Miles From L.A.’. Julio Iglesias and Willie Nelson’s version would top the US Country singles charts. It was denied the top spot on our charts first by Queen’s ‘I Want To Break Free’ and then by Laura Branigan’s ‘Self Control’ The song has also been recorded by Tom Jones, Bobby Vinton, Engelbert Humperdinck and Alanis Morissette (on which Willie Nelson played guitar).
