The song (sometimes noted as Y Viva Espana’) was first recorded in 1971 by a Belgian artist called Samantha (Real name: Christiane Bervoets). That version had Dutch lyrics. It has subsequently been recorded by a good number of artists with the most successful one being by Sylvia Vrethammar (who just went under the name Sylvia) which went to 4 in the UK in 1973. A 1972 version by a singer called Imca Marina would get to 17 in The Netherlands and 7 in Norway.
