The Pointer Sister’s ‘Fire’ was still setting our world alight as it held on to the top spot to make it 2 weeks at 1. Dan Hill’s ‘Sometimes When We Touch’ spent a second week at 2 to be the main challenger for the top spot but one could also not rule out Laurika Rauch’s ‘Kinder Van Die Wind’ which moved up 1 from 4 to 3.

Cliff Richard picked up his 6th biggest climber award as ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’ jumped 6 from 18 to 12. He was the 29th act to reach this many biggest climber awards. There were 3 other star rater climbs and they were Racey’s ‘Boy Oh Boy’ which climbed 5 from 13 to 8, Boomtown Rats’ ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ (up 5 from 16 to 11) and Night’s ‘Hot Summer Night’ (up 4 from 17 to 13).

Century’s ‘The Face In The Mirror’ was the faller of the week as it suffered a 6 place drop from 12 to 18 in a straight swap of places with the climber of the week mentioned above. This was the 24th time we had seen the climber and faller in a week simply swap places.

Racey’s ‘Some Girls’ enjoyed a 3rd week as the oldest on the charts. It sat at number 14 and was in its 17th week with us.

After 4 songs leaving the charts 2 weeks ago we now saw 2 weeks in a row with just 1 song going. This week it was the turn of Buffalo featuring Peter Vee’s ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ which had been with us for 12 weeks and peaked at 5. This would be the only chart hit for the band and it also heralded the end of Vee’s SA chart career as an artist. He had managed 5 hits, spent 48 weeks in the top 20 and his best peak had been 5 with ‘Magic Carpet Ride’. His best solo peak was 8 which ‘The Tips Of My Fingers’ managed. Although his chart career as an artist had ended, his name would still pop up on the label of future hits but those would be as producer.

The new entry was a second hit for Switzerland’s Peter, Sue & Marc. ‘Memory Melody’ was the 3rd hit by a Swiss act to chart with Peter, Sue & Marc’s ‘Cindy’ and Frank Valdor’s ‘Massa Massa’ being the other 2. ‘Memory Melody’ was co-written by the Peter in the band’s name, Peter Reber, along with a guy called Rolf Zuckowski who had written the trio’s previous hit. The song would give them a number 6 hit in Switzerland.

For a 3rd week running we saw an act reach the 20 weeks in the charts mark and this week it was Racey’s turn. They were the 230th act to reach this milestone.
