Barry and Robin Gibb wrote the song for Otis Redding to record, but sadly Redding died before he could record it. In 1992/93, Michael Bolton would see his cover version get to 16 in the UK and 11 in the US as well as charting in a number of European countries, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Nina Simone, Janis Joplin, Billy ‘Crash Craddock and Dexys (aka Dexy’s Midnight Runners) have all recorded cover versions of the track.
